It is shot at a standard distance, 20 yards, short enough to fit in an indoor range. The aim is to gradually improve your accuracy at that distance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The Portsmouth round is 5 dozen arrows at 20 yards on a 60cm face, after 6 sighters. It uses 10 zone scoring (gold = 10,9 red = 8,7 blue = 6,5 black = 4,3 white = 2,1).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">If you achieve a qualifying score twice then you can claim a badge. So, for example, if you score a total of 458 and 476 you can claim the badge for 450, and so on. The exception we have introduced is that if you achieve that score in a formal open competition, then only one score is needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The awards are given for scores of 300, 325, 350, 375, 400, 425, 450, 475, 500, 525, 550, 560, 570, 575, 580, 590 and the maximum of 600.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The Aims:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">To encourage archers to improve their accuracy at a specific distance which can be shot indoors.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">To provide a round which also can contribute towards AGB Classifications and Handicaps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Our Rules:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The rules are not set by one organisation so there are different interpretations, these are ours:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Scores need to be achieved twice to qualify for the award, or once in a formal open competition.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The qualifying rounds must be shot on different days, only one attempt per shooting day.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The round must be shot and scored under formal shooting conditions, so your arrow scores must be written down by another archer, you can&#8217;t score your own arrows.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The awards must be achieved in sequence, once you claim an award you cannot later claim a lower one.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Badges are awarded for achieving the score, regardless of bow type. (See Rules In Detail below).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">To claim an award, two counter-signed score sheets need to be submitted to Elaine and\/or Paul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Our Rules In Detail:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> You can now carry over scores from one shooting season to the next (previously this was not allowed).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0The round can be shot outdoors, although for tradition&#8217;s sake it would be nice to shoot it indoors.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> You can now interleave scores, so for example if you score 402, 434, 415, 431, you can use the 402 &amp; 415 to claim a 400, then afterwards use the 434 &amp; 431 to claim a 425 badge.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Since badges are awarded for achieving the score regardless of bow type, this has implications:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> This means you cannot claim the same badge twice using different bow types.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> However, you can claim the first qualifying score on a different bow type to the second qualifying score, if you wish. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> You can claim one value badge on one bow type and a different value badge on a different bow type, if you wish.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> This makes it similar to AGB Classifications, where you can achieve a given Classification using different bow types.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\">\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Symbol;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> Note that e.g. compounds will usually achieve higher awards than e.g. longbows. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PORTSMOUTH AWARDS Fakenham Bowmen is keen to encourage members to develop their abilities and reward them for this, so we support the Portsmouth Award Scheme.
